WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

We raise our cattle from birth to market.  This helps us maintain a consistent quality and assures our personal standards are met.   This includes our commitment not to use artificial hormones, antibiotics, or systemic biocides on healthy animals.  Our animals are handled in a way that does not cause stress to them; which could cause a toughening of their meat.  The health of the animal is the best PATHway to maintaining the highest quality product.

After weaning, our calves graze on a highly palatable mixture of grasses and legumes that help them grow to maturity quickly without the need of hormones or steroids.  Pastures are rotated frequently to maintain the highest advantage for both field and animal; allowing pastures to re-grow quickly before cattle are returned to it.  A mixture of kelp (natural minerals) and salt is available to the animals at all times.

Grass-fed beef as been shown to be higher in Omega 3’s and lower in Omega 6 than typical grain-fed diets.  The Omega 3 is an unsaturated fatty acid essential for human health and acts to lower levels of LDL (the “bad” cholesterol).    “Grass-fed beef usually has less than 10% of its fat as saturated.” - American Journal of Animal Science, 2000.  “Feedlot beef contains 35—75% fat, most of which is saturated.” - American Journal of Animal Science, 2000.  Healthy meat is essential to any healthy diet.

The easygoing temperament of the smaller-framed Devon helps produce tender meat from a high percentage of muscle that marbles easily.  All of which contributes to a tasty product.
